Regular Season Round 6: Kauhajoki - Salon Vilpas 96-82

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Salon Vilpas (4-1) in Kauhajoki on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Kauhajoen Karhu (3-3) 96-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Salon Vilpas. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoen Karhu. Salon Vilpas managed to win fourth quarter 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kauhajoen Karhu made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Kauhajoen Karhu outrebounded Salon Vilpas 40-27 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Salon Vilpas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman Austin Hollins (195-91, college: Minnesota) scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio, agency: Mansfield and Associates) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Okko Jarvi (193-96) with 25 points and international Mikko Koivisto (194-87, college: NC-Greensboro, agency: Blacktop Management) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kauhajoen Karhu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Lapua. Salon Vilpas at the other side keeps the third position with one game lost. Kauhajoen Karhu will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Salon Vilpas will play at home against the league's second-placed Joensuun Kataja and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
