There was a small surprise in Trier where ninth ranked Gladiators (4-3) defeated 6th ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (4-3) 78-69 on Saturday. Gladiators made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Oettinger Rockets Gotha was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Brandon Spearman (190-91, college: Hawaii) fired 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Ryan Nicholas (201-91, college: Portland) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Jaysean Paige (188-94, college: W.Virginia, agency: David Lee Services) produced 18 points (made all of his seven free throws) and center Robert Oehle (209-88, agency: Octagon Europe) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
