Regular Season Round 5: Sammic ISB - Cambados 91-88

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Cambados (4-1) in Azpeitia on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by Sammic ISB (4-1) 91-88. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cambados. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-22. But Cambados won second period 24-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Canadian guard Joe De Ciman (198-94, college: Colorado St.) who scored 28 points and 5 rebounds. New Zealand center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St.) chipped in 23 points and 7 rebounds. Four Sammic ISB players scored in double figures. Georgia center Shota Gelazonia (205-94) produced 25 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Erik Quintela (184-91) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sammic ISB keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Cambados. Sammic ISB is looking forward to face Agustinos-Leclerc (#12) in Leon in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cambados will play at home against L'Hospitalet (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
