Regular Season Round 6: Ponferrada CDP - Chantada 48-41

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Ponferrada CDP (2-2) won against at home higher ranked Chantada (3-1) 48-41 on Tuesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-4. But Chantada won third quarter 14-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ponferrada CDP dominated on the defensive end, holding Chantada to just 4 points in first quarter and to 14 points in first half. Ponferrada CDP held Chantada to an opponent 19.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.4 percent accuracy of the winners. The best player for the winners was Haitian-American forward James Cambronne (201-91, college: St.Michael's) who scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Cambronne is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Ponferrada CDP's coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Montenegrin center Filip Knezevic (205-94) who recorded 7 points and 10 rebounds and guard Marcos Garcia (190-93) added 5 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Ponferrada CDP moved-up to seventh place in Group A-B, which they share with Innova Chef. Loser Chantada keeps the third position with one game lost. Ponferrada CDP will face Seis do Nadal (#13) in Vigo in the next round where they are favorite. Chantada will play at home against Calidus Gal.COB (#6) and hope to win that game.
