Regular Season Round 6: Munkkiniemen - Karkkila 77-82

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Munkkiniemen's (2-5) home loss to ninth ranked Karkkila (2-4) in Helsinki 77-82 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-10. But Munkkiniemen won third quarter 27-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Karkkila won last quarter 26-23. It was a good game for American forward Michael King (201-74, college: Ill.-Chicago) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Artturi Nieminen (189-97) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Antti Hammainen (199-97) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Markus Rautasalo (180-0) added 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) in the effort for Munkkiniemen. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Karkkila went down to eleventh position (Division) due to points difference. Newly promoted Munkkiniemen dropped to the twelfth place with five games lost. Karkkila will face Namika Lr (#13) in Lappeenranta in the next round. Munkkiniemen will play at home against Raholan Pyrkiva where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
