Regular Season Round 5: Thor AK - Haukar 96-93

Important game to mention about took place in Akureyri. Tenth ranked Thor AK (2-3) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Haukar (1-4) 96-93 on Friday evening. Haukar was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-22 charge of Thor AK, which allowed them to win the game. Haukar was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Danero Thomas (196-86, college: Murray St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Jalen Riley (182-93, college: E.Tenn.St., agency: Duran International) chipped in 25 points and 6 rebounds. Swingman Kristjan Sverrisson (194-96) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and guard Emil Barja (192-91) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Five Thor AK and four Haukar players scored in double figures. Thor AK moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Njardvik and IR. Haukar lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Thor AK will face higher ranked KR (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Haukar will play at home against IR (#7) and hope to win that game.
