Regular Season Round 5: Townsville - Sydney 85-83

The most exciting game of round 5 in the WNBL took place in Townsville. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Sydney Uni Flames (2-3) to seventh ranked Townsville Fire (3-3) 85-83 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sydney Uni Flames. Townsville Fire looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Croatia center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Mia Murray (184-88) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists. American forward Asia Taylor (185-91, college: Louisville, agency: LBM Management) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized American point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four Townsville Fire and five Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Sydney Uni Flames at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Townsville Fire are looking forward to face Boomers (#6) in Melbourne in the next round. Sydney Uni Flames will play at home against Boomers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
