Regular Season Round 6: Haukar - IR 93-82

There was a minor upset in Hafnarfjordur where higher ranked IR (2-4) was defeated by eleventh ranked Haukar (2-4) 93-82 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. IR managed to win fourth quarter 35-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 34. Haukar forced 19 IR turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Sherrod Wright (193-91, college: George Mason) had a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners and guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) chipped in 22 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Matthew Hunter (196-90, college: Cent.Conn.St.) with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Sveinbjorn Claessen (195-86) scored 20 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Haukar moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated IR. Haukar will meet Njardvik (#8) in the next round. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik KR.
