Regular Season Round 6: Panionios - Iraklis 72-65

The biggest surprise took place in Athens where host Panionios (6-0) beat Iraklis (5-1) 72-65 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Iraklis. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Panionios forced 20 Iraklis turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Iraklis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Bosnian-British center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, college: UAB) who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Dimitrios Kalaitzidis (198-85, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) added 13 points respectively. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panionios have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Iraklis at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Doukas. They were replaced at the leadership position by Panionios. Iraklis will play next round against Psyhiko trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Panionios will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked AE Larissas on the road.
