Regular Season Round 9: Panteras - Soles 97-79

No shocking result in a game in Aguascalientes where second ranked Panteras (8-2) defeated 5th ranked Soles (4-5) 97-79 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Panteras's pressure prevailed and they won that period 26-15 extending their advantage to 18 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Soles' 36. They outrebounded Soles 44-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Cuba center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Puerto Rican point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Nigeria Chamberlain Oguchi (196-86, college: Illinois St.) with 29 points and 8 rebounds and Venezuela forward Anthony Perez (206-93, college: Mississippi) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Panteras. They maintain second place with 8-2 record behind leader Fuerza Regia. Soles at the other side keep the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Garzas and Barreteros. Panteras will meet Santos (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Soles will play against Barreteros (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
