Regular Season Round 9: Fuerza Regia - Toros 92-80

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Monterrey. Leader Fuerza Regia faced 3rd placed Toros. Host Fuerza Regia (9-0) defeated guests from Nuevo Laredo (5-5) 92-80. The game was mostly controlled by Fuerza Regia. Toros managed to win third quarter 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Fuerza Regia won last quarter 22-12. They made 29-of-36 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Toros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Nigeria center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Andy Panko (203-77, college: Lebanon Valley, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. Four Fuerza Regia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican swingman Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) who recorded 17 points and 4 assists and American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) added 9 points and 9 assists respectively. Toros' coach Jose Martinez Boglio rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuerza Regia have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Toros lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Fuerza Regia are looking forward to face Abejas (#3) in Guanajuato in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Toros will play at home against Ciudad and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
