Regular Season Round 7: Thor AK - Thor Thorl 80-69

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Thor AK (3-4) beat higher ranked Thor Thorl (4-3) in Akureyri 80-69 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Thor AK. Thor Thorl was better in third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Thor Thorl 48-35 including 18 on the offensive glass. Thor Thorl was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for the former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard George Beamon (193-91, college: Manhattan) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post, agency: HMS) answered with 23 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized Polish Maciej Baginski (195-95) added 11 points in the effort for Thor Thorl. Thor Thorl's coach Einar Johannsson tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Thor AK moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Thor Thorl keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Thor AK will face IR (#11) in Reykjavik in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Thor Thorl will play at home against Tindastoll (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
