Regular Season Round 11: Santos - Panteras 84-78

Date: November 19, 2016
The game between second ranked Panteras (8-4) and ninth ranked Santos (4-7) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Panteras were defeated by Santos in a tough game in San Luis Potosi 78-84. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-14. But Panteras won second period 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Santos made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. It was a great evening for naturalized American guard Martin Samarco (190-85, college: Bowling Green) who led his team to a victory scoring 36 points (!!!). American forward B.J. West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) helped adding 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Santos players scored in double figures. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds and international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Panteras' coach Allans Colon rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santos moved-up to eighth place. Panteras at the other side keep the second position with four games lost. Santos are looking forward to face higher ranked Barreteros (#7) in Zacatecas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panteras will play at home against the league's leader Fuerza Regia (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
