Regular Season Round 7: Khimik-2 - Ternopil-TNEU 66-70

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Yuzhny. Third ranked Ternopil-TNEU faced their biggest opponent Khimik-2. Guests from Ternopil (5-2) defeated host Khimik-2 (5-2) 70-66. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Khimik-2. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 28-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Ternopil-TNEU dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Khimik-2's 16 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Khimik-2 51-34 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for center Evgen Odazhny (210-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Andrij Shapovalov (187-93) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side forward Artem Kovalov (202-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and guard Anwar Rakhimshaikov (188-97) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ternopil-TNEU moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Khimik-2. Ternopil-TNEU will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Khimik-2 will play again against the league's second-placed Ternopil-TNEU and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
