Regular Season Round 9: Leon - Ponferrada CDP 82-80

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Ponferrada CDP (4-3) was edged on the road by leader Leon (7-0) 82-80 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But Ponferrada CDP won second period 25-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ponferrada CDP was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American Ted Hinnenkamp (201-93, college: Dickinson, agency: Duran International) who scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Jose Antonio Lopez (190-96) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Leon players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and Haitian-American forward James Cambronne (201-91, college: St.Michael's) added 22 points and 16 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Leon have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A-B with 7-0 record. Newly promoted Ponferrada CDP keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Leon will face Calidus Gal.COB (#5) in Ourense in the next round. Ponferrada CDP will play at home against Innova Chef and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
