Regular Season Round 16: Petrochema - KTU 63-69

Very expected game when 13th ranked Petrochema (4-12) lost to eighth ranked KTU (8-8) in Jonava 63-69 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-13. But Petrochema won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. KTU forced 22 Petrochema turnovers. The winners were led by Deividas Poguzinskas (202-95, college: High School) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and guard Aidas Kavaliauskas (185-95) supported him with 7 points, 7 rebounds, 11 assists and 6 steals. Even 20 points and 7 rebounds by forward Karolis Sarukas (198-95) did not help to save the game for Petrochema. Forward Mykolas Dieninis (197-97) added 12 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted KTU maintains eighth position with 8-8 record. Loser Petrochema keeps the thirteenth place with 12 games lost. KTU will meet bottom-ranked Ezerunas-Karys (#14) in the next round where they are favorite. Petrochema will play against Mazeikiai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
