There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Maquinaria Ensino (3-6) lost to twelfth ranked Azkoitia (3-6) in Azpeitia 67-73 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maquinaria Ensino won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Azkoitia forced 24 Maquinaria Ensino turnovers. It was a good game for American guard Tamara Taylor (178-93, college: S.Florida) who led her team to a victory with 31 points and 5 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Bosnian center Aleksandra Begenisic (193-89, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 22 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and guard Alba Prieto (180-99) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Maquinaria Ensino. Azkoitia moved-up to ninth place in Group A, which they share with RC Celta and Ensino. Azkoitia will have a break next round.
