Regular Season Round 9: Snaefell - Haukar 78-95

Bottom-ranked Snaefell (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 95-78 loss to ninth ranked Haukar (4-5) in Stykkisholmur on Thursday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Snaefell managed to win fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Snaefell's 24 and made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Snaefell 51-33 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Haukar looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American guard Sherrod Wright (193-91, college: George Mason) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and guard Emil Barja (192-91) chipped in 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian Sefton Barrett (196-83, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: Blacktop Management) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Snjolfur Bjornsson (183-94) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Haukar moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Snaefell still closes the standings with nine games lost. Haukar will meet at home league's second-placed Stjarnan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Snaefell will play against the league's leader KR (#1) in Reykjavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
