Regular Season Round 15: Fuerza Regia - Barreteros 90-78

Undefeated leader Fuerza Regia delivered the fifteenth consecutive victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Barreteros (6-9) 90-78 in Monterrey. It looked good early as Barreteros took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Fuerza Regia had a 23-20 second period charge getting the lead and Barreteros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-90. Fuerza Regia dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Barreteros' 38. Fuerza Regia had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists. It was a good game for American forward Andy Panko (203-77, college: Lebanon Valley, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 9 assists. The former international guard Gabriel Giron (190-88) contributed with 16 points and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Fuerza Regia's coach Paco Olmos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Carl Jones (180-91, college: St.Joseph's) answered with 27 points and 7 assists and the other American import guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Barreteros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fuerza Regia (15-0) have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 15 victories in a row. Newly promoted Barreteros keep the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Santos. Fuerza Regia will play against Garzas (#4) in Plata Hidalgo in the next round. Barreteros will play on the road against Abejas in Guanajuato and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
