Regular Season Round 15: Santos - Garzas 95-89

We should mention about the upset which took place in San Luis Potosi, where 4th placed Garzas (8-7) lost to ninth ranked Santos (6-9) in a road game 89-95 on Thursday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-13. But Garzas won second period 21-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Garzas 40-26 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Garzas were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward B.J. West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 22 rebounds. Naturalized American guard Martin Samarco (190-85, college: Bowling Green) chipped in 29 points. Four Santos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Puerto Rican Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) who recorded 26 points and American Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Garzas' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Santos moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Barreteros. Newly promoted Garzas keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Santos will face Ciudad (#9) in Ciudad Juarez in the next round. Garzas will play at home against the league's leader Fuerza Regia (#1) and hope to win that game.
