Very predictable result when eighth ranked Matera (5-4) smashed at home bottom-ranked Venafro (0-10) 96-71 on Sunday. Matera dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Venafro's 28. They outrebounded Venafro 50-17 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Stefano Laudoni (195-89) had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Nicola Ravazzini chipped in 8 points and 19 rebounds during the contest. Four Matera players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Marco Rossi (183-81, agency: SPORTlab Agency) responded with 17 points and 6 assists and guard Mario Tamburrini (188-94) scored 12 points. Venafro's coach Arturo Mascio gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Matera maintains eighth position in B with 5-4 record. Loser Venafro still closes the standings with ten games lost. Matera will face higher ranked Pescara (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Venafro will play against San Severo (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
