Regular Season Round 9: Sokhumi - Kutaisi 86-90

Date: December 6, 2016
The game in Tbilisi was also quite interesting. Second ranked Kutaisi (7-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Sokhumi (2-6). Kutaisi managed to secure a 4-point victory 90-86 on Tuesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sokhumi won fourth quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kutaisi forced 24 Sokhumi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. International point guard Giorgi Tsintsadze (192-86) nailed 28 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and the former international Beka Bekauri (207-91) accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) came up with 35 points (!!!) and 4 steals and forward Giorgi Jgerenaia (206-90, college: N.Georgia) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Sokhumi in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sokhumi's coach Nugzar Cheishvili rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Kutaisi. Defending champion maintains second place with 7-1 record behind leader Dinamo Tbilisi. Loser Sokhumi keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Kutaisi will meet at home Energy Invest (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sokhumi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Dinamo Tbilisi.
