Regular Season Round 3: Qatar Club - Al Rayyan 92-121
Date: December 6, 2016
An interesting game was also a 29-point tough home loss of Qatar Sports Club in a game in Doha versus undefeated Al Rayyan (#2) 121-92. The game was mostly controlled by Al Rayyan. Qatar Sports Club managed to win fourth quarter 30-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Rayyan dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Qatar Sports Club's 46. They outrebounded Qatar Sports Club 53-22 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Rayyan looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 24 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) supported him with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Five Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Even 44 points (!!!) and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by American point guard James Justice (178-89, college: Martin Methodist) did not help to save the game for Qatar Sports Club. His fellow American import forward Quinton Doggett (206-90, college: Southern) added 32 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Arabi.
