Regular Season Round 5: Good Angels - Yakin Dogu BGD 65-69

Not a big story in a game when 3rd placed Slovakian Good Angels (2-3) lost to leader Turkish Yakin Dogu BGD (5-0) in Kosice 65-69 on Thursday. Good Angels were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Yakin Dogu BGD, which allowed them to win the game. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game, while Good Angels only scored six points from the stripe. Yakin Dogu BGD forced 20 Good Angels turnovers. Strangely Good Angels outrebounded Yakin Dogu BGD 44-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. Good Angels were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Turkish center Quanitra Hollingsworth (196-88, college: VCU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. American swingman Essence Carson (183-86, college: Rutgers) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Slovenian point guard Teja Oblak (172-90) answered with 17 points and 4 assists and Australian guard Rebecca Allen (185-92, agency: LBM Management) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Good Angels. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Yakin Dogu BGD. They maintain first place in Group D with 5-0 record. Defending Slovakian champion Good Angels keep the third position with three games lost. Yakin Dogu BGD will face Miskolc (#4) at home in the next round. Good Angels will play against the league's second-placed Olympiacos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
