Regular Season Round 23: Toyotsu FE - Kumamoto V. 59-61

There was a minor upset in Nagoya where leader Toyotsu FE (17-5) was edged by first ranked Kumamoto V. (19-3) 61-59 on Sunday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Joel James (208-94, college: N.Carolina) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Mao Fukuda (192-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nigerian center Solomon Alabi (216-88, college: Florida St.) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Kohei Fukuzawa (177-93) added 18 points respectively for the hosts. Toyotsu FE's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kumamoto V. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 19-3 record which they share with defeated Toyotsu FE. Loser Toyotsu FE still keeps top position with five games lost. Kumamoto V. will face Tokyo Z (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Toyotsu FE will play against the league's second-placed Shimane Magic and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
