Regular Season Round 23: Niigata Albirex - Sendai 89ers 77-76

Fifth-ranked Sendai 89ers (6-17) were very close to win a game against fourth ranked Niigata Albirex (12-11). Niigata Albirex managed to secure only one-point victory 77-76. However their fans expected easier game. Sendai 89ers were ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 18-11 charge of Niigata Albirex, which allowed them to win the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds. His fellow American import Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) added 20 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Niigata Albirex moved-up to second place, which they share with Hitachi SR and Sanen. Sendai 89ers lost their ninth game in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with 17 games lost. Niigata Albirex's next round opponent will be Akita Happinets (#4) on the road. Sendai 89ers will play against Yokohama BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
