Regular Season Round 13: Alcazar - Lucentum 65-68

A very interesting game took place in Alcazar. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Alcazar (6-7) to third ranked Meridiano Alicante (9-4) 68-65 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It looked good early as Alcazar took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Meridiano Alicante had a 26-19 second period charge getting the lead and Alcazar was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-68. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Luka Nikolic (209-94) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Guillermo Rejon (206-77) contributed with 8 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Tyrone Nared (203-88, college: Oregon) answered with 10 points and 8 rebounds and forward Ignacio Diaz (200-87) added 13 points in the effort for Alcazar. Alcazar's coach David Varela tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Meridiano Alicante keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Granada and Avila. Newly promoted Alcazar dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Meridiano Alicante's next round opponent will be Gandia (#14) at home which should be an easy win for them. Alcazar will play against Zornotza (#7) in Amorebieta-Echano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
