The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Matera's (7-5) home victory over 9th ranked Giulianova (6-7) 85-74 on Sunday. Matera dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Giulianova's 38. They outrebounded Giulianova 41-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Stefano Laudoni (195-89) stepped up and scored 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners and point guard Gionata Zampolli (189-85) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). At the losing side center Riccardo Rosa (-96) responded with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Antonello Ricci (190-92) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Four Giulianova players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Matera moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Giulianova dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Matera will face league's second-placed San Severo on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giulianova will play against Campli (#4) and hope to win that game.
