Bottom-ranked Shiraz a.s Pipe (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 74-69 loss to eighth ranked Army (3-5) in Tehran on Monday evening. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 23-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Army forced 22 Shiraz a.s Pipe turnovers and outrebounded them 47-27 including 19 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Mohammad Torabi (211-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international Arsalan Kazemi (200-90, college: Oregon) who added 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Army's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Amir Allahverdi responded with 23 points and Saman Taherpour (203-91) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Army moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Kashan. Newly promoted Shiraz a.s Pipe still closes the standings with eight games lost. Army will meet league's second-placed Arak on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Shiraz a.s Pipe will play against the league's leader Petrochimi (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
