Regular Season Round 14: Lucentum - Gandia 82-63
Date: December 21, 2016
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Meridiano Alicante (10-4) smashed at home 14th ranked Gandia (4-10) 82-63. The game was mostly controlled by Meridiano Alicante. Gandia was better in third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gandia 41-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by Gandia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Alvaro Lobo (192-92, agency: Duran International) notched 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Serbian power forward Luka Nikolic (209-94) supported him with 7 points and 12 rebounds. Lobo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Meridiano Alicante's coach Miguel Angel Zapata allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by Argentinian Agustin Ambrosino (203-90, college: BYU, agency: Dynamics Global Management) did not help to save the game for Gandia. Guard Carlos Gil (185-93) added 10 points and 4 assists for the guests. Four Gandia players scored in double figures. Meridiano Alicante have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Granada. Newly promoted Gandia dropped to the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Meridiano Alicante's next round opponent will be CB Tarragona 2017 (#12) on the road which should be an easy win for them. Gandia will play against Zornotza and hope to win that game.
