Regular Season Round 11: Al Gharafa - Al Arabi 93-59

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#4) and Al Arabi (#3). Al Gharafa (4-1) smashed visiting Al Arabi (3-2) by 34 points 93-59. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Arabi. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Al Gharafa. Al Arabi managed to win fourth quarter 19-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Gharafa dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Al Arabi's 30. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American-Ghanian Adamu Saaka (198-88, college: Furman) with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Nigerian-American power forward Manny Adako (203-87, college: Northeastern, agency: Court Side) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. Al Gharafa moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Rayyan. Al Arabi at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Qatar Club. Al Gharafa is looking forward to face Al Wakrah (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Arabi will have a break next round.
