Bottom-ranked Correcaminos managed to get the second consecutive victory on Thursday night. This time they won against eighth-ranked Abejas in Ciudad Victoria 78-71. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-13. But Abejas won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Correcaminos made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Kennedy Jones (201, college: Arlington Baptist) who scored 27 points. Canadian forward Grandy Glaze (204, college: Grand Canyon) chipped in 9 points and 17 rebounds. Correcaminos' coach Luis Andres Garcia allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) produced 28 points and 9 rebounds and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Correcaminos maintains tenth place with 5-19 record. Loser Abejas keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. Correcaminos will meet higher ranked Panteras (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Abejas will play against Soles and hope to secure a win.
