Regular Season Round 23: Toros - Santos 84-85

The most exciting game of round 23 in the LNBP took place in Nuevo Laredo. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-ranked Toros (16-8) to seventh ranked Santos (10-13) 85-84 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toros. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 29-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Santos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Greg Smith (198-91, college: Colorado St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import forward B.J. West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) helped adding 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Santos players scored in double figures. Santos' coach Andres Contreras used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Damion James (201-87, college: Texas) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Santos moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Toros keep the second position with eight games lost. Santos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toros will play on the road against Garzas in Plata Hidalgo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
