Regular Season Round 15: Alcazar - Sammic ISB 71-73

A very close game took place in Alcazar between Sammic ISB and Alcazar. Fourth ranked Sammic ISB (10-5) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Alcazar (7-8). Sammic ISB managed to escape with a 2-point win 73-71 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Alcazar trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-73 at the end of the game. It was an exceptional evening for New Zealand center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St.) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Canadian guard Joe De Ciman (198-94, college: Colorado St.) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Power forward Jose Santonja (200-92) came up with 20 points and forward Ignacio Diaz (200-87) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Alcazar in the defeat. Four Alcazar players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Sammic ISB moved-up to third place, which they share with Avila. Newly promoted Alcazar dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. They share it with Agustinos-Leclerc and Zornotza. Sammic ISB will meet Gandia (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Alcazar will play against L'Hospitalet and hope to secure a win.
