Regular Season Round 18: Gipuzkoa GBC - Palma 78-73

Very expected game in San Sebastian where 13th ranked Palma (8-10) was defeated by second ranked Gipuzkoa (13-5) 78-73. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Palma won fourth quarter 15-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American power forward Mike Carlson (206-91, college: Truman St., agency: Duran International) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Ricardo Uriz (188-80) supported him with 18 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by center Victor Serrano (211-89) did not help to save the game for Palma. British guard Benjamin Mockford (188-89, college: St.Francis, NY, agency: HMS) added 17 points. Four Palma players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gipuzkoa keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Burgos and Oviedo. Palma at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with ten games lost. Gipuzkoa's next round opponent will be Araberri (#7) in Vitoria-Gasteiz where they are favorite. Palma will play at home against Melilla Baloncesto (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
