Regular Season Round 29: Puerto Montt - Las Animas 92-74

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Las Animas (14-16) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Puerto Montt (13-15) 92-74 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Puerto Montt. Las Animas managed to win fourth quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American power forward Mike Phillips (201-90, college: Howard) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Francisco Jara (192-87) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Puerto Montt players scored in double figures. Puerto Montt's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Terrell Taylor (203-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: DTMones) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and the former international point guard Franco Morales (179-92) scored 11 points. Puerto Montt moved-up to eighth place. Las Animas lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 16 games lost. Puerto Montt will meet at home higher ranked Deportivo Valdivia (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Las Animas will play against AB Ancud and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
