Regular Season Round 17: El Jaysh - Al Rayyan 91-77

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: El Jaysh (#1) and Al Rayyan (#3). El Jaysh (8-0) won against visiting Al Rayyan (5-3) 91-77. The game was mostly controlled by El Jaysh. Al Rayyan was better in third quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. El Jaysh dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 40. They outrebounded Al Rayyan 48-29 including a 37-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. El Jaysh players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Al Rayyan's players. American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) accounted for 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Four El Jaysh players scored in double figures. American point guard Marcel Anderson (183-86, college: Harris-Stowe St.) came up with 27 points and 6 assists and the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Al Rayyan in the defeat. El Jaysh have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-0 record. Defending champion Al Rayyan keeps the third position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
