Regular Season Round 12: Snaefell - IR 82-98

Date: January 5, 2017
Bottom-ranked Snaefell (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 98-82 loss to ninth ranked IR (5-7) in Stykkisholmur. The game was mostly controlled by IR. Snaefell was better in third quarter 27-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. IR had a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Snaefell helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (180-94, college: Columbus St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists and American forward Quincy Hankins-Cole (203-90) supported him with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four IR players scored in double figures. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Snjolfur Bjornsson (183-94) did not help to save the game for Snaefell. Swedish forward Andre Michelsson (188-97) added 26 points and 4 steals. IR maintains ninth position with 5-7 record. Snaefell at the other side still closes the standings with 12 games lost. IR's next round opponent will be league's leader Stjarnan at home and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Snaefell will play against Njardvik (#10) in Njardvik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
