There was no surprise in Bilbao where 9th ranked RETAbet BB (6-8) was defeated by seventh ranked Gran Canaria (10-6) 82-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. RETAbet BB was better in second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to RETAbet BB's 24. Gran Canaria forced 19 RETAbet BB turnovers. FYR Macedonian-American point guard Bo McCalebb (178-85, college: New Orleans) fired 12 points and 6 assists for the winners. American Royce O'Neale (198-93, college: Baylor) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. The former international forward Alex Mumbru (202-79, agency: BeoBasket) produced 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Belgian forward Axel Hervelle (205-83) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gran Canaria have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser RETAbet BB dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Gran Canaria will have a break next round. RETAbet BB will play on the road against Baskonia (#5) in Vitoria and hope to win that game.
