Regular Season Round 9: Athinaikos - Kronos AD 89-48

Very predictable result in Athens where third ranked Athinaikos (6-2) smashed 11th ranked Kronos AD (1-8) 89-48 on Wednesday. Athinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Kronos AD's 32. They outrebounded Kronos AD 50-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Athinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Kronos AD's players. The best player for the winners was swingman Vassiliki Daskalopoulou (178-84) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Cypriot guard Stavria Koniali (170-93) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Athinaikos players scored in double figures. Athinaikos' coach Gavrilos Kalogeropoulos felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Australian forward Alex Sheedy (185-92, college: Fresno St.) who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds and Eleni Economidou added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Athinaikos. They maintain third place with 6-2 record having four points less than leader Olympiacos. Loser Kronos AD keeps the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Terpsithea. Athinaikos will meet Niki Lefkadas (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Kronos AD will have a break next round.
