Regular Season Round 17: Lucentum - Albacete 81-60
Date: January 15, 2017
There was no surprise when 13th ranked Albacete (5-12) was crushed on the road by third ranked Meridiano Alicante (12-5) 81-60. Meridiano Alicante made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Albacete turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Albacete helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Alvaro Lobo (192-92, agency: Duran International) nailed 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and forward Alejandro Reyes (197-93) accounted for 13 points. Lobo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Jeffrey Short (193-92, college: Norfolk St.) came up with 18 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Cuban forward Georvys Elias (199-81) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Albacete in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Meridiano Alicante keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Avila and Sammic ISB. Newly promoted Albacete dropped to the twelfth place with 12 games lost. Meridiano Alicante's next round opponent will be Cambados (#6) on the road which should be theoretically another easy game. Albacete will play against Zornotza (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
