Regular Season Round 19: Caen - Souffel 77-73

Date: January 20, 2017
Fifth defeat of league's leader Souffelweyersheim (14-5) against fourth ranked Caen (13-6) 77-73 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Souffelweyersheim won fourth quarter 21-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caen made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Souffelweyersheim helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (196-90, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 assists. American power forward Richie Gordon (203-89, college: W.Carolina) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Caen players scored in double figures. Valentin Correia (192-93) answered with 21 points and 8 rebounds and Lithuanian power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Souffelweyersheim. Caen have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with RAC Basket. Souffelweyersheim at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Quimper who have the same record. Souffelweyersheim will play next round against UB Chartres trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Caen will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Lourdes-Tarbes on the road.
