Regular Season Round 18: Granada - Lucentum 80-74

An interesting game for CB Granada (13-6) which hosted in Granada one of their biggest challengers Meridiano Alicante (12-7). Third ranked CB Granada managed to get a 6-point victory 80-74. It looked good early as Meridiano Alicante took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then CB Granada took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 6 points. They made 25-of-31 charity shots (80.6 percent) during the game, while Meridiano Alicante only scored six points from the stripe. CB Granada brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The former international center Jesus Fernandez (204-75) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was power forward Guillermo Rejon (206-77) with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and forward Adrian Mendez (195-93) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four Meridiano Alicante players scored in double figures. Meridiano Alicante's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. CB Granada moved-up to second place. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. CB Granada will play against CB Tarragona 2017 (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Meridiano Alicante will play against Agustinos-Leclerc (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
