Regular Season Round 15: Munkkiniemen - HNMKY U23 59-65

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Munkkiniemen (3-12) lost to ninth ranked HNMKY U23 (7-10) in Helsinki 59-65 on Sunday. HNMKY U23 held Munkkiniemen to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.3 percent accuracy of the winners. HNMKY U23 had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Munkkiniemen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Jyri Eboreime (185-98) who led his team to a victory with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Tuure Takala (185-93) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Pyry Marttinen (184-99) answered with 20 points and 4 assists and forward Antti Hammainen (199-97) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Munkkiniemen. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. HNMKY U23 moved-up to eighth place in Division. Newly promoted Munkkiniemen keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. HNMKY U23 will face higher ranked HyPo (#7) in Hyvinkaa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Munkkiniemen will play on the road against Karkkila (#9) and hope to win that game.
