Second Stage Round 5: Zalgiris II - Mazeikiai 77-60

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Zalgiris II (16-14) beat 10th ranked Mazeikiai (11-19) in Kaunas 77-60 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris II. Mazeikiai was better in fourth quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mazeikiai 39-25 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris II looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Power forward Gytis Masiulis (206-98) contributed with 8 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Rytis Biliartas (200-91) answered with 14 points and 7 rebounds and forward Justinas Olechnavicius (194-94, agency: Court Side) added 8 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Mazeikiai. Zalgiris II have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 16-14 record. Loser Mazeikiai dropped to the eleventh position with 19 games lost. Zalgiris II will face Petrochema (#13) in Jonava in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mazeikiai will play on the road against Palanga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
