Regular Season Round 18: Gimle BBK - Baerum Basket 80-104

The game between Top Four teams took place in Bergen. 4th ranked host Gimle BBK (11-9) was smashed by second ranked Baerum Basket (15-5) 104-80. The game was mostly controlled by Baerum Basket. Gimle BBK managed to win second period 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baerum Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Gimle BBK's 44. Baerum Basket forced 20 Gimle BBK turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward James Weatherspoon (198-92, college: Toledo) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. The other American import point guard Eric Gilchrese (183-87, college: New Hampshire) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. Gilchrese is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Baerum Basket's coach Matthias Eckhoff felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Eivind Lamo (193-96) who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and American guard Nick Victor (196-92, college: Yale) added 16 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Baerum Basket have an impressive 13-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-5 record having just three points less than leader Kongsberg. Loser Gimle BBK keeps the fourth place with nine games lost. Baerum Basket will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gimle BBK will play again against the league's second-placed Baerum Basket (#2) in Bekkestua and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
