Regular Season Round 17: Burgos - Santurtzi 75-58

There was an upset when second-ranked Santurtzi (10-4) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Burgos (5-9) 75-58 on Saturday. Santurtzi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was British guard Jules Akodo (188-96) who scored 21 points. American center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Pablo Aranzabal (186-91) produced 15 points and 5 rebounds and forward Joseba Iglesias (200-83) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Burgos moved-up to tenth place in Group A-A, which they share with Mondragon. Loser Santurtzi dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Burgos will face higher ranked Pielagos (#9) in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santurtzi will play at home against Cantbasket (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
