Regular Season Round 17: Valladolid Univ. - Venta de Banos 96-89

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Valladolid Univ. (9-5) defeated at home 14th ranked Venta de Banos (1-12) 96-89 on Saturday. Valladolid Univ. made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Venta de Banos turnovers and outrebounded them 38-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Valladolid Univ. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Venta de Banos' players. The best player for the winners was forward Axel Castillo (194-88) who scored 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Javier Martinez (187-97) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Valladolid Univ.'s coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Estonian Robert Valge (192-97) produced 38 points (!!!) and Daniel Garcia added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Valladolid Univ. and four Venta de Banos players scored in double figures. Valladolid Univ. maintains sixth place in Group A-A with 9-5 record. Venta de Banos lost their eighth game in a row. They dropped to the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. Valladolid Univ. will face Valle de Egues (#7) in Olaz in the next round. Venta de Banos will play at home against Zarautz Ulacia (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
