Regular Season Round 25: Al Gharafa - Al Ahli 94-61

Another exciting game was again a derby match of two teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#2) and Al Ahli (#7). Al Gharafa (12-1) crushed visiting Al Ahli (4-8) by 33 points 94-61. The game without a history. Al Gharafa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Al Ahli to just 7 points in first quarter. Al Gharafa dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 32 and made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Al Ahli 42-27 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman Abdulrahman Saad (185-96) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. American swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. Ndoye Seydou Elhadj answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Serbian point guard Branko Jereminov (186-87) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Al Ahli. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Al Gharafa. They maintain second place with 12-1 record having just one point less than leader El Jaysh. Al Ahli lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
