Regular Season Round 17: Krosno - Asseco 79-80

Date: February 1, 2017
A very interesting game took place in Krosno. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Krosno (11-7) to thirteenth ranked Asseco (8-10) 80-79 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Krosno. Strangely Krosno outrebounded Asseco 35-19 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) nailed 24 points, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and the former international guard Marcel Ponitka (192-97, college: High School) accounted for 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Asseco players scored in double figures. Swedish-American guard Chris Czerapowicz (201-91, college: Davidson) came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Kareem Maddox (202-89, college: Princeton) added 12 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) respectively for Krosno in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Asseco maintains thirteenth place with 8-10 record. Krosno at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Asseco's next round opponent will be higher ranked Energa Czarni (#10) in Slupsk and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Krosno will play on the road against TBV Start (#16) in Lublin and hope to win that game.
